8 must-do sights and experiences to tick off during your first visit to Lisbon

April 12, 2018 No Comments

With its rattling yellow trams and colourful, cobbled streets, it’s not hard to see why Lisbon has become one of Europe’s prime tourism destinations. Perhaps it’s the sea air, the laidback vibe or the beautiful scenery, but there’s something about the Portuguese capital that simply gets under your skin.

Is anyone else utterly over going for walks by now Is anyone else utterly over going for walks by now?

We've been in the highest level of restrictions pretty much the whole time so walking has been our only choice of activity and I'm thoroughly fed up of it 😂

Seriously, if Dan asks me to go for a walk at the weekend I act like such a stroppy teenager. I JUST WANNA BE IN THE PUB, OK?!

It was fine in the summer, but now its cold and wet and grey and I just can't be arsed. I also have no suitable footwear because I am too vain to spend money on items that are fundamentally unattractive. (If anyone can recommend some vegan non-fugly walking shoes, that would be appreciated! 👍)

I'm still going running a few times a week so I haven't become a complete couch potato, but I am seriously tempted 🥔

Been doing my best influencer impression on my story today by sharing my experiences using the Lumie Vitamin L light to combat low mood and energy during the dark winter months. 'Av a look if you're interested. 💁‍♀️

Also, I'd like to take a moment to admire my own shapely thigh muscles that are on display here, which I have now sadly allowed to wither into obscurity. 😭😅

Eating out was nice while it lasted, although we've only been to a restaurant once, to this gorgeous place, since the weather made al fresco dining an impossibility 🌪 Glad we chose wisely!

Feeling hopeful today - maybe naively - that the winds of change might be upon us 🤞🤞 Also, we've done lockdown once, so we can do it again. Remember to be kind to yourself. I used to think self-care was a bit of a stupid fad, but it's definately what got me through the last one. ❤

Just had to walk to the shop for Bake Off treats ( Just had to walk to the shop for Bake Off treats (donuts, FYI 🍩) in the dark!! I reckon I have enough digits to count the number of times I've been out after dark since March, and still have some little toes left over. 😅

It was kind of exhilarating, to be honest 😂 I forgot how pretty the valley looks with its houses all a-glow and was getting major nostalgia from the smell of wood smoke, fresh air and damp leaves... Maybe these dark nights aren't so bad after all (I say, just two days after the clocks went back ⏰)
Hellooo 28! 👋 It's my proper birthday - As in Hellooo 28! 👋

It's my proper birthday - As in it lands on the Sunday that the clocks go back, just like it did the day I was born. No wonder I've always loved a sleep in. 🤷‍♀️

I've spent the weekend in the confines of our cosy little valley and feel so happy for it. The paired-back celebrations have consisted of food, drink, long evenings by the fire, baths every night and lazy mornings. 💤

This year I'm grateful for health and happiness as well as all the messages, stories, flowers and pressies I've received. I've particularly enjoyed getting physical birthday cards. ✉

In the absence of seeing friends and family the intimacy of handwritten messages and thoughtfully selected designs have really meant a lot. I've decided I need to do better at sending them myself from now on. 📬

Time for reflection; 27, you were interesting. A year that forced me to focus on the little things; the small joys, the importance of self care and snatched moments with loved ones. You've been fine, really, but 28 has the potential to shit all over you. 💩
